"Once children learn how to learn, nothing is going to narrow their mind. The essence of teaching is to make learning contagious, to have one idea spark another." -- Marva Collins
Maybe each teacher needs to have a copy of this comment taped to their desk! What a great way to remind us that we need to create that "spark". Creating that spark leads to further learning whereas a dry, dull lesson can stop learning right in its tracks!
I love that quote. Marva Collins was a wonderful individual and a phenomenal teacher. She accomplished a great feat when she opened up her own school in Chicago in 1975 with only $5000.00 from her pension fund. She dedicated that school to helping children who were not accepted at other schools due to myriad of problems.
